Bridget Terry Long
Shout out to Bridget Terry Long—Harvard University Dean and distinguished economist.
Throughout your career, you’ve exhibited a steady dedication to improving educational opportunities for all, but particularly those from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. Affordability is your focus! Through your research, you’ve demonstrated a passion for discovering avenues for high achieving students to smoothly transition from high school to college and into the workforce. As a result of your scholarship, the future of countless talented leaders and scholars from less fortunate families is no longer a dream, but reality.
With an undergraduate concentration in Economics and Afro-American Studies, your intellectual eccentricity opened doors beyond your imagination. In 2010, you were appointed by President Barack Obama to the National Board of Education Sciences (NBES), advisory panel of the Institute of Education Sciences (IES). Today, you sit as Dean of the Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE), the first African American to hold this position in the graduate school’s 102-year history.
