Wyomia Tyus
Shout out to Wyomia Tyus—track athlete and activist.
With a mental acuity and physical prowess, you became the first Olympic track athlete of any race or gender to win back-to-back gold medals in the 100-meter sprint in 1968. That year, you were connected with Tommie Smith and John Carlos by the same cause as you fought to bring awareness to racial inequities that plagued our country since time immemorial.
After following the footsteps of Wilma Rudolph, you raised the bar and blazed the trail for Florence Griffith Joyner, Jackie Joyner-Kersey, Allyson Felix, and other Black female track and field stars all over the world.
